Itchy Vagina
All women have experienced at least once an itchy vagina discharge and we all know how frustrating and uncomfortable that makes us feel. We don’t want to get out of the house anymore, the libido is decreasing towards its minimum, we feel like there’s something wrong with our body and, in deed, it is. The dry itchy vagina appears in case of three vaginal infections, mainly caused by different types of bacteria or fungal organisms that affect not only the vagina, but the entire area around it. When my vagina is itchy I suspect having one of the following problems: a bacterial vaginosis, a thrush infection, a herpes simplex or a trichomonal vaginalis.
Bacterial Vaginosis
The Bacterial Vaginosis’ symptoms include soreness, burning and itching of the vulva, but without any significant swelling. However, the first sign is the fishy smell white or grey itchy vagina discharge. It looks a lot like thrush, but it is a lot more serious than it, as it can lead to an internal infection named pelvic inflammatory disease.
Thrush
This disease is caused by a fungal organism that normally lives in our bodies, the Candida Albicans. The main symptoms are the smelly vaginal discharge, usually white and thick, accompanied by an itchy red vagina. Personally I don’t recommend the use of creams and pessaries that have to be inserted in the vagina, because their side effects are, sometimes, similar to the thrush’s symptoms themselves and make the skin even sorer than before. There are some creams that ease the itching sensations and the pain and you can take some oral medication. However, I never take medication on my own – when my vagina is itchy I go to the doctor and take only the treatment he prescribes. You should ask for a specialist’s advice especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Fortunately, the thrush is not a Sexual Transmitted Disease (STD), but sometimes a STD can be confused with a thrush and mis-treated, which can lead to more severe infections and long-standing vaginal problems. That is why you should go see a doctor before trying to cure yourself.
Trichomonas Vaginalis
This infection has a truly scary name and it is sometimes called “Trich”. It’s produced by a vaginal parasite and it’s extremely contagious when having penetrating sex or exchanging vaginal fluid (such as sharing the sex gadgets). Trich’ s symptoms are: dry itchy vagina, a foamy, yellow disharge, soreness, inflammation and, sometimes, pain.
Herpes Simplex
This is a viral infection provoked by a virus that exists in two versions: the first one produces infections around the mouth and the second one concern the vagina. The firs symptoms are the painful sores that appear on the vagina, which might cause pain when urinating (because the urine is acid). You can feel having an itchy red vagina or some swollen glands in the groin, maybe some flu-like signs.
Clitoris.com advises you to never ignore the itchy vagina discharges and if you don’t have the time to go to a doctor immediately, at least try to increase your intimate hygiene.
